Growing in direction & development

During this time of the year students are either writing exams or are on holiday, so this is a good opportunity for us to look at our own development to make sure that we are ready for 2014. I’d like to share about two events that have helped to develop us and plan for next year.

GLS flier

IMG_1679The first one was the Global Leadership Summit (GLS). GLS was created by Willow Creek Association to develop Christians as leaders. This DVD conference is being shown in 50 different countries across the globe. Over a 2 day period we watched 8 great speakers, including Bill Hybels, Gen. Collin Powell, Henry Cloud and Andy Stanley. There are a few key phrases that will hopefully stay with me, like “Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier”, “Casting a vision, for example discipleship, needs to become a value, are you discipling or being discipled”.

There were so many more points on leadership that touched my heart and will affect how I lead others. After each session at GLS, we had an opportunity to discuss what we learned as a team, includingpractical points that we would like to implement. Rose Thompson, our Western Cape Team Leader, purchased the collection and we will go throughone session every month to see what we can learn and how to be more effective. I can’t wait! I want to encourage you to attend GLS 2014 whether you’re in a leadership role or not.

Western Cape Team Retreat

The next event is our team retreat that we had last week – all our strategies coming together and discussing the way forward as a provincial CCC team. We worked through a strategic planning process to help us see our current reality and future steps. Part of the process included doing a SWOT analyses. SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Looking at these factors help us to make better choices and have a healthy perspective on the ministry.

Development is key in anything you do. “If you are not growing, you are dying” – strong words I heard from a pastor 8 years ago. I see the value in it and will keep on learning.Team building exercises helped see how we work together and communicate during a task.

All in all this was a great two days, and has helped us looking forward to 2014 with greater perspective

Have a blessed day and thanks for taking the time to read this update!
